Fear makes even the most extreme rules seem reasonable (to some people)

It seems that the British tradition of taking a picnic to a sporting occasion will not be possible when the Olympics happen in London in 2012.

Those attending will not be able to bring in sandwiches, bottles of drink or even mobile phones (good luck with that one people, there's no way that is enforceable).

Along the way you will be X-Rayed in the same way as if you were going on an aircraft; just think of the queues...

This wide range of bans is being touted as a safety measure but the cynic in me thinks it may have even more to do with protecting the on-site food and drink concessions that suppliers have had to bid for.

The whole event starts to feel ever more removed from the stated Olympian ideals.

I feel a black farce about to begin.
